Beached Az began as an online animation called ‘Beached Whale’ and is the story of a Whale who finds himself beached on the shores of New Zealand. The original clip was uploaded to YouTube in April 2008 and has so far amassed over 4.8 million views. The ABC approached Handsomity Institute to transform this clip into a short TV series comprising of the original animation and ten new one-minute episodes.
The BeachedAz website launched Thursday 20 August, featuring episode one and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. A new episode will be available each Thursday and broadcast on ABC2 at 9.25pm from Thursday 17 September and on ABC1 from 23 October.
