What Was Your Best Read of 2009?

Oprah.com's Best of 2009 poll revealed the best novel of 2009 ... The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

The Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown's fifth book sold more than 2 million copies in its first week on sale, "the biggest one-week sale in Random House history for a single title," according to the publisher. In the latest Robert Langdon thriller, the Harvard symbologist is back cracking codes but this time in Washington, D.C. And, of course, there is a new love interest, setting the wheels in motion for another Tom Hanks–led blockbuster.

My pick for 2009 ... The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas

Synopsis: At a suburban BBQ, a man slaps a child who is not his own. What unfolds is a powerful haunting novel about love, sex and marriage, parenting and children and the fury and intensity that family can arouse.

Jacqui's Review: Best book I've read by an Aussie author. Explores people's everyday life, their thoughts, emotions, secret desires. Christos has an amazing way of showing you the world from each characters perspective. Highly recommended. 5 out of 5.
